Joovy Groove Ultralight Umbrella Travel Stroller Review
We recently went on a week-long trip to Puerto Rico with our 15-month old son, Grayson. We already have a lightweight stroller—The First Years Ignite—but it lacks a lot of features for a long trip with lots of time in the stroller. We wanted the best umbrella stroller we could find. One that was very lightweight, with the ability to recline for naps, ample storage (you can never have enough) and lots of sun protection. After lots of comparison shopping, we found this (and more) in the Joovy Groove Ultralight Umbrella Stroller.
I own another product from Joovy, and even though it’s made for infants, we still use it every day. The Joovy Spoon is definitely one of my Top 10 baby purchases, so I was excited to move to another one of their products, a travel stroller. It’s full of features that you don’t normally find in a lightweight stroller, plus it looks great. I love the modern design and color options; including triple black, blueberry, purpleness and charcoal.
Oversized Canopy
Living in sun-drenched Miami presents a major challenge. We have to constantly protect ourselves and baby from the sun. I love Joovy Ultralight’s oversized canopy with top view window for this reason. It’s become my go-to stroller for quick errands around town and I no longer have to worry about my son being protected.
Super Lightweight
The Joovy Ultralight weighs less than 13 pounds. It’s easy to fold with an automatic foot lock. Once folded, it has a side-clamp that keeps the stroller shut. It also has a convenient (and removable) carry-strap on the side if you need to throw it over your shoulder. I love the functionality of the stroller and find it much easier to fold that our other two.
Lots of Storage
On the back of the stroller, there’s a mesh cup holder and small zippered pocket. If I were to pick my least favorite part of the stroller, this is it. The zippered pocket is flimsy and the cup holder isn’t as good as it could be. To solve this issue, I recommend buying an additional stroller organizer or cargo tray.
In addition to the zippered pocket and cup holder, there is a large storage basket on the bottom of the stroller and two mesh kids pockets built into the sides of the seat. We love these for stashing snacks, toys and sippy cups in reach of the little one.
It Reclines!
The Joovy Groove Ultralight is one of the few travel strollers that easily reclines in unlimited positions to 149 degrees. It’s perfect for sleeping on-the-go. When the stroller is reclined, the back panel attaches to the back of the seat to shield baby’s face from the sun entering through the back of the stroller. They really thought of everything when designing this stroller.
Adjustable Leg Support
One of the problems with our other stroller was the lack of leg support. Grayson’s fat little legs dangled out front, completely exposed to the sun, and if he wanted to sleep, we couldn’t adjust the uncomfortable sitting position. In the Joovy Groove Ultralight, we have the option to have his legs hang down or propped up with an easy-to-operate switch located under the foot rest.
Safety
Along with all the features above, the Joovy Groove Ultralight has an adjustable 5-point child harness and reflective fabric for night visibility. We found it to be very sturdy, even over the rough cobblestone streets of Old San Juan.
We look forward to many years with our Joovy Groove Ultralight stroller and can’t recommend it enough for parents looking for a travel stroller that is both lightweight and full of features. Joovy offers free shipping if you purchase directly from their website, www.joovy.com. If you join the “Joovy Club”, they often have sales and discounts. I was able to get $60 off our stroller through one of their sales.

What is your favorite travel stroller? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
That looks like a really nice stroller. I didn’t have anything nearly that nice back when my boys were in strollers.
You had me sold when you said Super Light Weight. I just can’t lift like I use to and when I take my Grandkids anywhere, I need something light that I can lift.
I remember when my kids were little, which was a long time ago, how much I hated their umbrella strollers. ….. All their strollers actually. They were always so hard to maneuver and push. This looks like a great upgrade for sure. I’ll let my sister who is pregnant know
I could have used a Joovy when my kids were younger. Strollers have come a long way, that’s for sure!
It does look like a great stroller. I love the canopy and oversized storage. If I had small ones, I would look into this model. A large travel stroller is hard to find.
I really like how you can lift his legs up so he rests more comfortably. For a lightweight stroller, they pack a lot of nice features into it.
My mom was always concerned by the sunlight damaging my little sister’s skin while on her stroller. Wish we had known about Joovy Groove! At least now I know for my future babes.
The strollers these days are way cooler then what I had when son was born. I would have loved to have this one.
I’m not familiar with the brand. It’s squareness gives me the impression it’s well balanced.
I am in love with the oversized canopy! My strollers never had a good canopy and the sun was always in my kid’s eyes.
They make such awesome strollers these days. This looks like a great one.
What a lovely looking stroller, looks like it keeps little one very cosy 🙂 x
Strollers have really improved since my kids were in them! I wish this had been around when my kids were little.
Wow this stroller looks awesome. It’s very chic. I’m digging the purple. I love how far it reclines. That was always an issue with mine. Also love all that storage. I will definitely look for this next time I’m in the market for a stroller!
This sounds like a perfect stroller. Lightweight, reclines, good coverage. Every mom needs one like this!
I just need to start bookmarking these recommendations! I have no idea what is what for a stroller 😛
That is a lot better than most umbrella strollers I have seen. They usually do not recline or have storage – things sure have changed since I needed one of these. I know a little boy who’s mom could use this.
this looks really handy and awesome!
It would have been nice to have a light stroller. This looks very well made as well.
Love that stroller! It looks easy to use (and to snooze in for the kiddos!)
Joovy makes THE best baby items. This stroller looks like it’s no exception. I love Joovy and my DIL does too.
I have always been a fan of their brand. I have a very similar stroller from them and my daughter loves it.
I have heard great things about this stroller. Little one sure looks comfy in it.
Looks like a fantastic piece of equipment! I like the purple one 🙂 As long as it’s easy to fold, I’d be a fan!
It’s been a long time since I’ve needed a stroller! But, I can remember using an umbrella stroller just because it was easier to lift and move around compared to my regular stroller when traveling. This is such a better option thanks to it being so lightweight!
I love the oversized canopy on this stroller. Regular strollers don’t always provide enough protection from the sun from their canopies.
It’s been a while since I needed a stroller. However, I remember the ones I had never had enough storage room. That one looks awesome.
that looks like a great stroller! I am fighting the urge to get it (we have three perfectly good strollers…I might have a problem).
I’d love to recommend this to one of my mom’s friends who just had a baby!
That is really a great stroller! I love its canopy, it totally huge and provides effective sun protection to my kid.
